Every winter Dimitrios Avramoulis a farmer of Vlach origin who led a nomadic life with his animals, every autumn he went down to the fertile plains of Parapotamos to a village in Tempi near the city of Larissa and in the spring he went up to one of the most widespread mountain villages in Greece , the widely known Samarina.
Throughout this long journey, he collected the aromas of nature in his milk and made a unique kind of cheese for people with a very fine taste. In the years that followed, the family began to increase their cheese production by also using the milk of other farmers in the area.
In 1973, the cheese processing factory with its current name was founded in Parapotamos. It was at that moment that more and more people began to taste and talk about the famous headscarf.
Since then, we have an exclusive and close relationship with more than 300 farming families who provide us with the best Greek goat and sheep milk from the outskirts of Mount Olympus and Kissavos. The milk has been collected daily with great care by our drivers for many years from the area of Tempe, Agia to the area of Dion and Leptokarya.
With daily hard work, with the same people and their experience, it became possible to produce other traditional products such as feta, kefalotiri, manouri, goat cheese, anthotyro.
The company AFOI D. Avramoulis O.E. has as its primary objective the observance of national and international health and safety legislative specifications, but also the satisfaction of our customers’ requirements.
We apply a Quality Management System, according to the Food Safety System Certification FSSC 22000 standard for the safety and hygiene of our products.
Our Cheese Products Production Unit is located in the village of Parapotamos, in the area of the Municipality of Tembi, just outside the city of Larisa, Greece.
